What Types of Bongs are There?

Not all bongs are blown equal. And, with so many variations out there, it can be tough to know where to start. To make things easier, let’s take a look at some of the most common bongs you’ll find and what makes them unique.

Beakers

These look just like you’d expect them to – think back to your high school years in the chemistry classroom and you’re pretty much there. The wide base not only gives great stability (important when dealing with a glass bong!) but also creates plenty of room for the water and smoke, so you can get a nice big hit. A classic for a reason, the beaker bong is a favorite with stoners worldwide.

Straight / Tube

Less durable due to their shape, these bongs tend to be much taller to allow for a reasonable hit. Often furnished with accessories you can mix up (depending on whether you want to use dry herbs or concentrate) these are the ultimate style for beginners and pro’s alike due to their ease of use and lightweight frame.

Percolator

A percolator bong includes a system that allows for the cooling of the smoke before it reaches the mouthpiece, delivering a smooth hit and a great smoking experience.

Multi-Chamber

These bongs are much more advanced and include intricate glasswork to create different chambers where the smoke is both cooled and purified, resulting in the smoothest smoking experience. Recycler bongs fall into this category, where the smoke is passed through the water 4 or 5 times before reaching the mouthpiece. These are pricy items but the difference in experience makes the extra spend worth it.

Silicone

The silicone bong is the new up-and-coming challenger to the throne and has many benefits the glass bongs lack (we have a post about this here if you want to read more). Flexible, durable, and heat-resistant, you can wave goodbye to smashing your bong once you add a silicone one to your arsenal. Super lightweight, these bongs are perfect to take to parties and can be thrown in the dishwasher when it’s time for a clean.

How to Clean Your Pink Bong

It won’t take long before your shiny pink bong starts to look – and smell – grubby. We know that cleaning a bong isn’t the easiest task in the world, but it’s essential if you want a great tasting hit and to avoid any bacterial nasties making their way into your lungs. Due to their awkward shape, don’t leave cleaning your bong until the grime is baked on there, it’ll only make things more difficult in the long run. Here’s our recommendation of the best way to clean your pink bong.

If you have a silicone bong, this part is SUPER easy. Throw it in the dishwasher, forget about it for a while, and it’ll come out squeaky clean.

Not so for glass bongs, there are a few more steps to consider. Since you can’t get your hands into all the little crevices and corners, you’re going to harness the power of science; the acidic nature of rubbing alcohol, or vinegar, with the addition of salt makes for a DIY abrasive that won’t damage your kit.

  1. Empty the water from the bong.
  2. Take all loose pieces apart and place them in individual zip-lock bags or Tupperware boxes with ½ cup alcohol/vinegar and a tablespoon of salt.
  3. Shake them up (this is why you do this individually) and let the salty abrasive mix get into all the little crevices.
  4. Do the same with your main bong section (you’ll need more liquid/salt mixture depending on the size of your bong). Give it a good shake too.
  5. Give everything a good rinse with hot water, you don’t want any of the mixture to be in there still when you go for your next pull!
  6. Let the bong air dry then you’re good to go.
